The Jozef Swinnen charity - Brussels
Do Rhythm Yourself
The Jozef Swinnen charity has developed the “Do Rhythm Yourself” project to help children with their academic and citizenship learning. It consists of a percussion (Djembe) workshop for 9 to 12 year-old children from the Bruxelles-Nord area of the Belgian capital.
The Solidarités au Pluriel charity - Liège
The Ecole de la Paix (Peace School)
The aim of the “Ecole de la Paix” scheme is to combat social exclusion and strengthen the “community spirit” between Belgian and non-Belgian children. Based in the St Léonard district of Liège, the “Peace School” scheme’s mission is to forge closer ties between children from all backgrounds through the exchanging of information about their cultures and religions, and also by carrying out concrete community-building projects. Developing this scheme will mean that more children will be able to take part, and it will also help to provide premises better-suited to the services on offer (camps, weekend breaks, courses, etc.)
The Emmaüs charity - Ranst
A tarpaulin-covered caravan for wheelchair-bound residents
Half of the 250 residents and members of the Zevenbergen service centre in Ranst (Malines) get around in wheelchairs, so arranging excursions for these children means a lot of work. An outing in a tarpaulin-covered caravan, combined with a fun activity involving direct contact with horses, requires fewer staff.
The Arktos charity - Antwerp
The “Rots en Water” scheme
The “Rots en Water” programme is a resistance training course aimed at 12-18 year old boys and girls from the city of Antwerp. Physical resistance training is a way of allowing them to develop and acquire mental and social skills. The young people learn to demonstrate understanding and respect in their behaviour, both for themselves and for other people, in everyday life and in conflict situations.
